One person was killed and three injured after overturned car caught fire on highway 101 in Atascadero | Instant News

Update (7:28 min.): CHP has released more details surrounding this collision.

Officers say around 2:00 PM.m Sunday, 20-year-old Grant Cosko Burlingame, CA was driving a 2007 Lexus g47 manually on North US-101 near the Del Rio road passengers: 20-year-old Adam Joss Menlo Park, 20-year-old Carter Norton, Redwood city, and 20-year-old Kevin Leventhal San MATEO.

Cosko suddenly swerved toward the right shoulder and then abruptly tried to back into the roadway, causing the vehicle difficult to turn left, according to the CHP.

Officers say the car kept driving from the roadway, causing it to overturn on embankment of grass.

Several people stopped to help the four men get out of the car before the Lexus was fully engulfed by fire, according to CHP.

Cosko, Joss, and Norton received minor and moderate injuries and were taken to two hospitals in the city.

The passenger, 20-year-old Kevin Leventhal was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The investigation into the case continues.
