Portland, Maine (WMTW) – Portland police said they arrested a man accused of firing shots in the garage of the police Department last week.
Said police officers stopped Abdikareem Hassan at 11:30 hours July 5 after they witnessed him hitting a curb on Franklin street.
According to police, the vehicle was traveling Hasan was similar to the one wanted in connection with shots fired in the garage about 45 minutes early.
Hassan was originally charged with operating under the influence, after a habitual offender and unauthorized use of property.
While in custody, police said Hassan became antisocial and attacked Portland police officer and an FBI agent. He also damaged a police vehicle, officials said.
Hassan was charged with assault on a police officer, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and disorderly conduct.
He was also accused of committing Federal crimes for assaulting a Federal agent, officials said.
Police said Monday that based on additional evidence, Hasan was charged in connection with shots fired in Portland in the garage of the police.
Hasan now faces charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of firearms is forbidden.
According to police, the motive for the incident remains unclear.
Hassan was held in Cumberland County jail since his arrest last week.
