BOSTON (WHDH) – Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and First Lady Lauren Baker announced Monday the formation COVID-19 Relief Funds to help those in the Commonwealth most affected coronavirus pandemic.

The fund has been launched with an initial investment of $ 13 million made by benefactors, including the One8 Foundation, The Bakers said at a press conference at Eastern Bank’s headquarters in Boston.

The owner of 7NEWS, Ed Ansin, donated $ 100,000 to the fund.

“We have a family foundation – this is not a big foundation but, nevertheless, it is important in our lives. And the main thing we do is try to help people in need and, also, support causes that we think are important in the communities where we are active, “he said.” Massachusetts is basically closed. Many people need help. Basically, I feel like doing my job. That’s my basic attitude. “

Lauren Baker said, “Mr. Ansin told us yesterday that he made a very generous contribution. And that will really help people in need throughout the Commonwealth. So yes, thank you. We are very grateful.”

The most vulnerable Bay State populations, including frontline health professionals, first responders, households that are disproportionately affected by the impact of COVID-19, immigrant and undocumented individuals, people with food insecurity, the disabled, and homeless, will benefit most amount of funding.

“This is an unprecedented and uncertain period, and the people of Massachusetts are struggling. The Massachusetts COVID-19 Relief Fund will help us connect those most affected by acute responses to COVID-19 with the resources and services they need to get through this difficult time and stay safe, healthy, and supported, “First Lady Baker said.

The fund will work together with regional nonprofit leaders, community foundations, leaders on the ground and at the state level to understand the landscape of response and assistance locally and across the state to fill strategically where gaps are spoken.

The fund’s mission is to ensure that essential needs are understood in real-time and provide resources for effective and impactful interventions, The Bakers said.

“I am very grateful to Lauren for her leadership for this important effort, and to the One8 Foundation team, Eastern Bank, FBE and The Boston Foundation for their hard work and dedication in getting funds from the land,” Baker said. “The compassion and generosity of the people of Massachusetts continues to inspire and amaze me, and I have no doubt that our country will continue to step in and give back to the people of Massachusetts so that we can get through this crisis stronger and more united than ever before.”

The COVID-19 Relief Fund is managed by the East Bank.
