COUNTY DADING MIAMI, Fla. – Alejandro Ripley, nine, died, and on Saturday, the Miami-Dade Police Department detective arrested his mother, Patricia Ripley, for his murder.
The day after he told police officers that two men had kidnapped him, the 45-year-old mother arrived at the Turner Guilford Knight Penitentiary at around 2:47 in the morning. He faces first-degree murder charges and seeks premeditated murder. This is a creepy twist to a tragedy that many know the Ripleys don’t see coming.
Friendship Circle of Miami, a non-profit organization that offers services for children with special needs, held a memorial on Friday afternoon in Kendall. Maria Martinez and Antoinette Uribe know Alejandro as an autism spectrum disorder patient at My Child Therapy Center on Country Walk.
“He is the world for his parents,” said Uribe, whose son is also a patient at the My Child Therapy Center.
When officers discovered Alejandro died on Friday morning, he was still wearing the Captain America T-shirt that his mother told him on Thursday night. He said he was abducted around 8:47 a.m. His body appeared around 7:50 a.m.
Alejandro’s body floats on a small lake in Miccosukee Golf and Country Club in the peaceful surroundings of Lake Kendale. Miami-Dade Police Department officials noted there was trauma to his head.
Detective Christian Thomas, a department spokesman, did not reveal details about the death investigation.
“We consider every detail,” Thomas said.
The detectives were suspicious when they saw the surveillance video at Home Depot at 15750 SW 88 St. … That showed Patricia Ripley waiting in her parked car for more than 15 minutes before calling 911, police said.
Detective Angel Rodriguez said he gave a detailed account. He said two men abducted Alejandro on Southwest 158th Avenue and Southwest 88th Street on The Hammocks.
“He noticed that he was being followed by an unknown vehicle. “The driver of an unknown vehicle tried to swipe beside his vehicle, forcing him to turn to SW 158 Avenue,” Rodriguez write. “The vehicle then blocked it.”
Rodriguez, a spokesman for the police department, said Alejandro’s mother also reported that one of the two men had ambushed him and asked for medicine before taking Alejandro from him.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an Amber Warning during a massive search for Alejandro. About an hour after his body was found, FDLE announced the Amber Warning was canceled.
“We are very sad to report that the child was found dead,” an FDLE spokeswoman wrote to anyone who had information to contact police officers at 305-476-5423.
Thomas and Rodriguez ask anyone who has information about this case to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
