Arkansas is approaching 6,000 COVID-19 cases, up more than 1,000 over the past week | Instant News

(KY3 / KSPR) – Arkansas has seen an increase of more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases over the past week and close to 6,000 statewide cases on Sunday.

On Saturday, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said the state had a second “peak” in the COVID-19 case, nearly 30 days since the state’s first peak. He said this peak occurred after record levels of testing throughout the state.

Arkansas health officials have reported nearly 150 cases in each of the past three days after a one-day high on Thursday of more than 400.

The Arkansas Department of Health reports the following figures on Sunday:

-5,922 cases in the state (147 new)
-116 reported deaths (1 new)
-1,658 active cases
-4,148 recovery

Governor Hutchinson said Arkansans needs to continue to be disciplined with their personal safety habits in response to a pandemic.
