Lightning strikes caused house fires in Shenandoah | Instant News

SHENANDOAH – A husband and wife in Shenandoah are forced to flee their homes after lightning strikes a fire in the attic of the house. Fire was reported around 5:45 a.m. Sunday at the Etonshire Court near South Emory Beach.

“It just sounds like a bomb went off,” said neighbor Debby Gibbs.

Gibbs said the blaze appeared to come close to his home.

“I’m looking at the roof line of my garage and right above it you can see the wisps of fire and smoke rising,” he said.

Firefighters from Woodlands and several other nearby departments rushed to the scene and were able to put out the fire before it could spread.

“We have thick smoke. Of course with weather conditions, the smoke is really low. Visibility in the area around the house is very bad,” said Battalion Chief Mitch Hubbard of the Woodlands Fire Department.

No one was hurt and the couple said they would stay with the family for the night.
