The future of Santa Barbara County Fair has not yet been decided, but the outlook is bleak – KEYT | Instant News

SANTA MARIA, California – The Santa Maria Fairpark Board of Directors will choose whether or not to go ahead with the Santa Barbara County Fair 2020, but the chances of a fair happening are small.

With cancellations to the California Mid-State Fair and Ventura County Fair, staff and organizers said it was unlikely the Santa Maria event would take place.

“The council meets June 2. Staff hope the council will cancel because many vendors, exhibitions and carnivals say it is difficult to mobilize only one fair. Therefore, it is difficult to see a way to move forward,” Santa Maria Fairpark spokeswoman Shelly Cone said.

Carnival and vendors often travel throughout the region making several stops at exhibitions and other events to maximize profits and reduce costs. With exhibitions and other mass meetings canceled, it makes no financial sense for members of this high-cost industry to hold a solo exhibition.

Exhibition, fireworks show, and high profile event in all our regions it has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If predictions presented by Santa Maria Fairpark staff and employees become a reality, other community favorites will be removed, by shifting their focus to (hopefully) more stable by 2021.
